 ABOUT THE NAIJA FITNESS CARNIVAL

THE NAIJA FITNESS CARNIVAL: is an open air workout and health campaign, designed to create awareness on the short term effects of unhealthy eating and poor physical exercise. To reduce the large number of premature deaths associated with physical inactivity and poor nutrition beginning from Nigeria.

2 REASONS WHY HOLDING THIS PROGRAM IS IMPORTANT AND URGENT

  1. 85% OF THE WORLD POPULATION IS AT RISK OF PREMATURE DEATH

To most people the covid-19 pandemic is the  only immediate global threat with capacity to wipe out a large number of the world’s population, therefore many individuals and organizations have introduced new operational methods including the  work from home lifestyle,  to curb the spread of this pandemic, but according to the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, this newly introduced sedentary lifestyle the world has embraced due to many factors including the increase in technologies that promotes sedentary routines. It is said that 85% of the world population has become physically inactive

And some interesting studies by john Hopkins medicine, effectively suggest that long period of sedentary behaviors increase the risk of;

  • Certain cancer
  • Contributes to anxiety and depression
  • Leads to Cardiovascular disease
  • causes a decrease in skeletal muscle mass
  • High blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol levels.
  • increases the risk of developing the coronary heart disease, or to be overweight and obese,

All of which leads to unhealthy life and premature death. Therefore there is an urgent need to address this situation.

  1. POOR NUTRITION IS THE KILLER OF OUR ELDERLIES IN AFRICA

Moment after the NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL said that diabetes (poor nutrition) is the major cause of deaths among the elderlies in Africa, the World health Organization also projects that diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death in 2030, meaning that poor nutrition can also impair our daily health and wellbeing, and also reduce our ability to live an enjoyable life. Therefore a traditional thoughts suggest that having a healthy diet and getting aerobics will offset the effects of a long time spent being sedentary.

This is why we have introduced the Naija fitness carnival to create awareness on the short term effects of unhealthy eating and poor physical exercise, to reduce the large number of premature deaths associated with physical inactivity and poor nutrition beginning from Nigeria.
